This week I am focusing on families, stress and autism. I found an article that focuses on different stresses that families may go through when they have children who have autism. Some of the challenges and stresses that parents may face are burn out, resentment, parents (separated, divorced, single and foster parents) and lack of family support. These are some of the stresses that families may face or feel if having a child that has autism. The article then goes through each topics of stresses that families may go through in depth. Overall this article is very interesting and also is part of an autism patient center. It has more information on this topic.

  1. Jessa, why do you think that parents often end up seperated or divorced? I remember reading one of your previous articles and it discussed the "Guilt" parents may feel when they have children with disabilities. Do you think the parents put the blame on each other when they become stressed out?

  2. There could be multiple reasons why families separate or divorce as a result of stress. Hopefully though, it does not happen as often. Parents may feel guilty because of what they did during their pregnancy or even genetics. This could cause blame between the spouses and could lead to divorce or separation.
