This week i want to focus on how stress can effect siblings when their sibling has a disability. I do not have any siblings, cousins or niece/nephews who suffer from a disability like autism, muscular dystrophy and so on. Some of my family members had ADD/ADHD and anxiety. I wonder how siblings feel about their siblings who have disabilities. Do they feel like they always have to protect them from other people, bullies and so on? Do they feel any hardship from parents on helping helping them with chores and other things around the house? Do they feel resentment towards their sibling or parent from lack of attention to them? These questions may be slightly hard to think of someone actually thinking about a sibling with a disability. Some siblings may feel this way about another brother or sister. The stress that they may feel at home may be less or more depending on the type of disability.

This week I am focusing on families, stress and autism. I found an article that focuses on different stresses that families may go through when they have children who have autism. Some of the challenges and stresses that parents may face are burn out, resentment, parents (separated, divorced, single and foster parents) and lack of family support. These are some of the stresses that families may face or feel if having a child that has autism. The article then goes through each topics of stresses that families may go through in depth. Overall this article is very interesting and also is part of an autism patient center. It has more information on this topic.

This week I want to focus on how stress effects families and their children with autism. Autism ranges from mild to severe. Since my blog is not on autism, I will just focus on how stress effects families and their children. Along with stress there are other factors that come into these families lives, like financial and social issues and challenges. There is a article that I will post below, this article will gives some insight on autism, stress and stress in general. The article gives tips for parents to help them. Some tips were to make a plan, practice staying calm, find family activities and ask/accept help from others. These are some ways on how to not stress when your child has autism. The article has more information on how to keep the stress to a minimum.

Having ADHD can affect a child in life and in school. There are many problems that can come from having ADHD. This article shows many different ways about who or what the stress of having ADHD can affect. There is also one section that states, is ADHD linked to stress? This would is interesting and would be helpful for parents of children, older children and schools to read because it gives great information on how stress and ADHD can be linked and how to help yourself or others with this knowledge.

This week, I want to focus on children who have ADHD and how stress affects the child and the family. There are so many stresses for a parent when they find out that their child has ADHD. When parents find this out, many questions may go through their head like: What can I do? Who can I call? Can the school help my child? The article below shows how one family dealt and helps their child through the stress of having ADHD.

I decided that i want to focus on different kinds of disabilities and how stress can affect the children and family. By focusing each time on a different disability, it will show how with each particular disability, the stress may be different or the same. Parents that have children with these different disabilities can see different websites or different ways of helping their child or themselves from cope with stress. It could also help families of children with no disabilities see how these families can cope with the stresses they may feel on a daily basis. These families that do not have children with disabilities may be able to share this information along to other families they may know who are dealing with stresses in their life.

April 9, 2012

During this quarter, i want to focus my blog on how families deal with the stress of having a child with a disability. I decided to base my blog on this because i know families who have children with all types of disabilities. For example: autism, ADHD (learning disabilities) and vision problems to name a few. What i want to know is: How do parents deal with the stress of having children with any disability? Who can parents talk to about these stresses? Can a therapist or school system help? What if they have no one to talk too, what then? These are just a few questions i have to get started thinking on this topic.

I found an article online that discusses many different things about what families can do when dealing with stress and having a child with a disability. Some different things they were talking about were: stressors with children and the variables with that, life stressors, different kinds of stressors and the family.

Throughout the quarter i would like to talk about many disabilities if possible to see how parents of children with many different disabilities deal with different situations.
